The Story Told

Find your story
The stories of people's lives is told in the last will and testament and estates.  Because here is where they listed their goods and treasurers.  The occupation is learned from the inventories and sales of the estate which detailed animals, acres of land, locations, and heirs. Local histories and economies are revealed in those papers.  Are you reading every item?  The old plantations represent an economy linked to uniquely creative and enterprising individuals who help to build a surrounding community.  You can envision farm work by the measurements of corn, tobacco, syrup and other foodstuffs growing in the fields, churning in the barns, candle-making and prickly cotton bowls.  For the genealogist, the old Will and Estate Records are the vintage find, the treasure discovered!  A large collection of such jewels is found on Virginia Pioneers
