Genealogy for Virginia Researchers Gets Easier

Beating the drum for genealogy researchers
We are in a fast-moving era of new technology which is making it easier for people to find their ancestors.  When I started searching in 1964, one had to travel around to State Archives in order to find anything.  I climbed up on short ladders to reach a rather small collection of books on families and genealogies, usually published during the 1930s.  Since that time, tons of books have been written and are available in State Archives as well as local regional libraries.  There were no indexes of census records.  Think of that!  I found most of my families by searching page-after-page.  Although most of the county records were on microfilm, there was no copier or flash drive.  My visit to the Virginia State Archives discovered that the archives was housing those over-sized, heavy county record books almost too large to handle.  I have not found any collection of the old Wills on the internet.  That is how Virginia Pioneers was born.  We are actively engaged in scanning the old Virginia Wills and Estates to help genealogists and our indexes make it really simple to view.  All that you do is click on a name and the document appears on your computer.  It is in the adobe PDF format, and the reader has the zoom lens.

Need more time to sort things out? A good deal for genealogists needing to read old Virginia Wills and other helpful family data. 6 months subscription to Virginia Pioneers for $54.00. Subscribe to Virginia and view wills and other documents online
