Why Deeds are so Helpful to Genealogists

Deeds transfer interests in personal and collaterial properties to children, thus providing the names of the parents.  They establish the date when that person first purchased land in a specific county or received a land grant.  Look for gift deeds, settlements of property between heirs (in deed format) , marriage contracts, etc.
