There are many wills and administrations of estates to be discovered in London for the earliest Virginia colonists. These documents usually state that the person was an adventurer to Virginia or had lands or goods in Virginia. When you get back to this time period (17th century) in Virginia, it is a good idea to examine English wills and other documents because it will trace your lineage further back. A good source is the book, English Estates of American Colonists by Peter Wilson which serves as an index of such documents. Also see, English Estates of American Colonists. I recommend delving into all of the published books for this time period before researching the actual English records. The reason: the colonial script is not that easy to read, especially when you get back to the 1500's where you will discover Latin.
